Can Elephants and Plantations co exist to a mutual benefit

Can Elephants and Plantations co exist to a mutual benefit

The Borneo Elephant (Elephas maximus borneensis) is the smallest elephant kind in the world. Due to their obvious small appearance compared to their much larger cousin in Africa, they are often known as the pygmy elephants of Borneo. The Borneo Elephants are only found on the northeast part of Borneo with most of the population distributed in the east coast of Sabah. The estimated population is only 1500-2000. A new survey will be starting soon to determine their current numbers.

20+ Ethical Elephant Encounters you can have in the World

20+ Ethical Elephant Encounters you can have in the World

An elephant encounter is one of the most special moments you can have while traveling abroad. But unfortunately these days we have to choose carefully where to do this, as many elephants are brutally exploited for the tourism industry.

Simply put, If you love elephants, don’t ever ride them. This is not a natural thing for elephants, and they have to go through a horrifying process in order to be ‘tame’ enough to do this, which I’ve gone into more detail below.

Fortunately, there are still places in the world where you can see wild elephants ethically. African forest elephants inhabit the dense rainforests of west and central Africa, while the Asian elephant can be found in India, Sri Lanka, China and much of Southeast Asia.

Morphological and molecular evidence supports Argiope chloreis Thorell 1877 and A. chloreides Chrysanthus 1961 (Araneidae: Argiopinae) as distinct species

The two green-bodied Argiope chloreis Thorell 1877 and A. chloreides Chrysanthus 1961 from Southeast Asia were shown to be distinct species on the basis of morphological and multi-gene data analyses. The two species recorded interspecific uncorrected p-distances of 7.87−8.83% and 8.21−9.18% based on COI and COII datasets, respectively. Individuals of A. chloreis from Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia are considered to be conspecific based on the relatively low intraspecific p-distance as well as similarities in their epigynal structure. Phylogenetic analysis of the COI+COII+H3A dataset has demonstrated that A. chloreis and A. chloreides are sister to each other, and related to A. aemula (Walckenaer 1841) and A. anasuja Thorell 1877. The morphological and genetic characteristics of male A. chloreides were described for the first time.
